I believe I’ve identified a spitting spider but am not completely sure. Can you describe the underbelly of this particular spider.

The one in question has 3 small black dots in a line across the upper portion of its abdomen. She also has an egg sack with her. If you think you've been bitten by ANYTHING, clean the wound and seek proper medical attention. Never in a web, always just walking around or chilling on a wall. They're pretty mellow. I tend to escort them gently outside when I find one, but always wonder if they'll inevitably just find their way back in again. The ones I've found are 1.5" long or so, so it's a bit jarring to Tamarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06845173449321024791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886700853255525969.post-84238515037694585912015-01-12T10:33:24.377-06:002015-01-12T10:33:24.377-06:00I woke up to one of these spiders on my arm and se...I woke up to one of these spiders on my arm and set out on the Internet to see what it was and the funny thing is I live in Hemingway South Carolina Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16927247412304591933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886700853255525969.post-37957626793925353192014-03-04T14:43:16.421-06:002014-03-04T14:43:16.421-06:00Never heard of anybody been bitten by a Scytotidae...Never heard of anybody been bitten by a Scytotidae - it's also difficult to imagine, since those species that I know are so small and look so extremely fragile - I would have assumed their chelicerae do not penetrate more than the most superficial layers of the skin. Although all the websites I've looked at say that they are not dangerous, they sure do hurt! The pain woke me up and lasted around half an hour, which then turned into burning all through my neck, which lasted another hour or so. I had 3 welts on my neck but no distinct bite marks.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08411840626173662766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2886700853255525969.post-23187223506043838822013-05-02T17:53:32.504-05:002013-05-02T17:53:32.504-05:00What Cheryl Vallie has are Long-bodied Cellar Spid...What Cheryl Vallie has are Long-bodied Cellar Spiders, Pholcus phalangioides. They are fairly common (Scytodes sp.) in India as well, but are only seen during the wetter seasons - and always rolled up in leaves. The behaviour of the American Scytodes and the India is remarkably different, although they apply the same strategies while hunting prey.Aniruddha Dhamorikarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04353702396880646873noreply@blogger.com
